PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which regulates the turning of an original tray around its axis when an original retaining plate is opened. SOLUTION: The image reader 10 comprises an original reader body 14 for reading image information on an original, an originater retainer 21 mounted so as to be turnable on a first shaft for retaining the original on the image reader body 14, an original feeding means 20 mounted on the original retainer 21 for feeding the original to the body 14, an original tray 26 mounted so as to be turnable on a second shaft 28 for mounting the original fed by the original feeding means 20, and regulating means 32, 34, 38 and 40 for regulating the turning of the tray 26 in a specified direction.
