PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of purification treatment for an alkylene oxide adduct that can give an alkylene oxide adduct having little smell and showing reduced coloring even when it is anionized; the purified alkylene oxide adduct, an anionized product thereof, and a detergent including the anionized product. SOLUTION: The purification treatment method characteristically comprises the treatment of the alkylene oxide adduct in the presence of 0.1-30 wt.% of water based on the weight of the alkylene oxide adduct, a protonic acid of≤5 pKa (Z) and a hydroxylamine salt (B); the purified alkylene oxide adduce that is obtained by the treatment; a method for producing an anionized product that is characterized by further anionizing the purified alkylene oxide adduct; the anionic surfactant that is obtained by further anionizing the purified alkylene oxide adduct; and the detergent composition including the purified alkylene oxide adduct and /or the anionized surfactant.
