The gear shift control lever assembly (15) for an automatic motor vehicle transmission has a first linkage half (17) of a pair (17,7) connected to a Cardan joint (16) for moving along a shift path between P,R, and D points. The second linkage half (7) is movably fixed to projections (12a,b) which control the pivoting selection movement. A slide (3) with two opposing locking noses (11a,b) is movable parallel to the pivot axis of the second link half to control the movement.
