A ball point pen or felt tipped ink pen has a shaft terminating at one end in a writing tip and at the other in a finger-operated sliding pin. The pin slides through a matching cylindrical passage to activate the tip extension action. The tip extension mechanism further engages with the root of an external pocket clip (16).
