PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder and a ribbon cartridge in which silence can be ensured during recording operation. SOLUTION: In a recorder where a plurality of recording wires are provided in a recording head 12 mounted on a carriage 15 and recording is performed on a sheet through an ink ribbon by projecting operation of these recording wires, a stationary ribbon cartridge 40 for containing the ink ribbon is provided and the ribbon cartridge 40 is provided with a sound insulating member 40A covering at least the recording region within the moving region of a carriage 15 where recording is performed on the sheet by means of the recording head 12.
