PROCESS FOR PRODUCING TERPENE COMPOUND

A terpene compound having a trans-form vinyl group (e.g., isoprene unit) introduced therein is synthesized through aza-Claisen reaction, which proceeds at a far lower temperature than conventional reactions. A quaternary ammonium salt having a vinyl group and a quaternary ammonium group bonded to the carbon atom bonded to the vinyl group is synthesized. A base is caused to act on this salt to generate a nitrogen ylide as an intermediate. This rearrangement reaction yields a trans-form vinyl group and simultaneously generates an iminum salt. Thereafter, the iminum salt is reduced to obtain an amine. This reaction causes the trans-form vinyl group to be added. This reaction proceeds at a low temperature. By repeating these reactions, a useful terpene compound can be synthesized.
