<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of an abnormal image regardless of the use environment and the use state of an apparatus by suppressing the deterioration of a photoreceptor due to ozone generated at a discharge time after cleaning an electrostatic charger. <P>SOLUTION: The rotation time of an image carrier and an ozone exhaust means when the discharge is finished after cleaning the electrostatic charger is set longer than that after finishing normal image forming operation, and is also changed in accordance with an environmental condition. Absolute humidity is calculated when the cleaning of the electrostatic charger (CH) and the discharge after the cleaning are performed, and it is judged whether the absolute humidity is in a range for instance from 4g/m<SP>3</SP>to 17g/m<SP>3</SP>or not. In the case that it is not in the range, a photoreceptive belt and an ozone fan as the ozone exhaust means are rotated for 120 seconds when the discharge is finished after the cleaning. In the case that the absolute humidity is in the range from 4g/m<SP>3</SP>to 17g/m<SP>3</SP>, the photoreceptive belt and the ozone fan are rotated for 60 seconds when the discharge is finished after the cleaning. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
