PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp lighting device and an illumination device hardly causing a lighting failure of an electrodeless discharge lamp when a constant of each electronic component constituting a resonance circuit or the like is dispersed even a little. SOLUTION: This electrodeless discharge lamp lighting device comprises: the resonance circuit 3 connected to a first or second switching element Q2 or Q3; an induction coil 4 for applying high-frequency power from the resonance circuit 3; the electrodeless discharge lamp 5 disposed adjacently to the induction coil 4 and lit by the high-frequency power; a parallel circuit composed of a third switching element Q4 and an impedance element R1 inserted in a closed circuit formed with the resonance circuit 3, the first or the second switching element Q2 or Q3; and a control circuit 19 for controlling at least the third switching element Q3. By the control circuit 19, the switching element Q4 is turned off during a starting period of the discharge lamp 5, and the third switching element Q4 is turned on in a lighting period.
