PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide 6-(2,7-octadienyl)-1,4-cyclooctadiene, to provide a method for producing the same, and to provide use of the same. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 6-(2,7-octadienyl)-1,4-cyclooctadiene comprises reacting butadiene-1,3 by using a catalyst system comprising a nickel complex compound, a phosphorous acid organic salt and a dialkylaluminum alkoxide, removing the remaining butadiene-1,3 and formed cycloctadiene and cyclododecatriene by distillation, and fractionally distilling in vacuum the 6-(2,7-octadienyl)-1,4-cyclooctadiene from the residue. The compound thus produced is suitable for producing a perfume and pharmaceutical, and suitable as a crosslinking agent in producing a rubber or as a copolymer in producing a plastic.
