PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a phenol condensate, hardly forming an ortho bond by using an oxidative coupling reaction of a phenol compound having a hydrogen atom at the ortho position. SOLUTION: The method for producing the phenol condensate comprises subjecting the phenol compound represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom or a 1-6C hydrocarbon group, and R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may form a ring by bonding to each other) to the oxidative coupling reaction in the presence of a host compound capable of adsorbing the phenol compound and having pores with 8.0-13.5Åmajor axis.
