PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately align the position of a sheet without being affected by the accuracy of the shape of the sheet by simple structure in a so-called center resist system. SOLUTION: In this sheet carrying device, carrying members 2 (for example, 2a to 2c) of specified quantity are disposed in a sheet carrying route 1, and the center position of a sheet S is positioned at a specified center reference position Lc. The device comprises a side position restricting mechanism 3 correcting skew with reference to the side end of the sheet S, a moving mechanism 4 moving a skew correction reference position m accordance with a sheet width by the side position restricting mechanism 3, and a carry-in route control mechanism 7 controlling a carry-in route for the sheet S so that the skew correction reference position m moves apart from the side end of the sheet S when the sheet S is carried in to a portion corresponding to the side position restricting mechanism 3.
