PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive main spindle unit easy in maintenance, and superior in incorporation performance. SOLUTION: This main spindle unit 1 has: an outer cylinder 3 having a stator 4 and a sleeve housing 5; a freely rotatable rotary shaft 6 having a rotor 7; a front side bearing 12 being a combinational angular ball bearing having an outer ring fixed to a front housing 8, and having an inner ring fitted around one end of the rotary shaft 6; a bearing sleeve 11 arranged on the other end side of the rotary shaft 6, and movable in the shaft direction of the rotary shaft 6 by fitting to the sleeve housing 5; and a rear side bearing 13 being a pair of angular ball bearings having an inner ring fitted around the other end of the rotary shaft 6, having an outer ring fixed to the bearing sleeve 11, and rotatably supporting the rotary shaft 6 by cooperating with the front side bearing 12. Further, the unit is constituted so that a semi-assembly 2 composed of the front housing 8, the rotary shaft 6, and the bearing sleeve 11, can be extracted from the outer cylinder 3.
