A plane light source with partially controlled lighting is provided to secure a vivid and natural picture by controlling the luminance of the plane light source according to brightness of the image device. A plane light source device comprises a flat type light source body and an electrode portion. An airtight discharge space inside the light source body is positioned. An electrode portion is arranged in the surface of the light source body, and electrode portion includes a plurality of sub-electrodes(260a,260b) located in the fixed interval. The density electrode of sub-electrode goes with sub-electrode relatively is higher at neighboring area of the sub-electrode.
