<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording and reproducing apparatus equipped with functions for reserving recording utilizing a network after grasping an internal status on the side of the apparatus and for grasping the internal status on the side of the apparatus after recording reservation via a network. <P>SOLUTION: An MPU 15 judges whether or not the reservation of recording can be accepted as mail contents with respect to reserved recording mail fetched from a mailbox and when new recording can not be reserved, the internal status is redirected together with mail indicating that mail reservation can not be performed. When the reservation of recording can be accepted as the mail contents, the recording reservation according to the mail contents is additionally registered.
