METHOD FOR DEPOLYMERIZING AROMATIC POLYCARBONATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for chemical recycling of an aromatic polycarbonate.

SOLUTION: A method for depolymerizing the aromatic polycarbonate is carried out as follows. The aromatic polycarbonate is reacted with a supercritical or a subcritical fluid of a 1-6C aliphatic alcohol to carry out alcoholysis of the aromatic polycarbonate. Thereby, the resultant aromatic bisphenol and di(1-6C alkyl) carbonate are recovered. In the method, the molar ratio of the 1-6C aliphatic alcohol based on 1 mol of the constituent unit of the aromatic polycarbonate is within the range of >1 to <40.
