HEAT-EXPANDABLE MICROCAPSULE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-expandable microcapsule giving foam having a spherical particle shape, a very sharp particle size distribution and uniform shape and size. SOLUTION: The heat-expandable microcapsule is obtained by using a polymer comprising an ethylenically unsaturated monomer or monomer mixture and encapsulating a volatile foaming agent gasified at a temperature below the softening point of the polymer, wherein a surfactant having an ethylenically unsaturated site in the molecule is added in the monomer and suspension polymerization of the monomer mixture is performed, and a method for producing the microcapsule is provided. By the method, the heat-expandable microcapsule having≤30% variation index of particle diameter distribution and a sharp particle diameter distribution is provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
