PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire saw superior in cutting efficiency of a material, and hardly causing falling-off of an abrasive grain, by solving trade-off between the cutting efficiency of the wire saw of fixing the abrasive grain to the periphery of a wire core by an abrasive grain binding material, and resistance to falling-off of the abrasive grain. SOLUTION: An abrasive grain holding material 2 is characterized in that the glass transition temperature is 50 to 200°C; an elastic modulus is 500 MPa or more when the material is not cut; and average projection quantity of the abrasive grain 3 from the abrasive grain holding material 2 is 1 to 30 % of the average grain size of the abrasive grain when the material is not cut.
