PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared radiator having an emission temperature of a heat conductor in the range of≥1000°C, preferably in the range of 1000°C to 1250°C, which can be produced to be robust, yet in a cost-effective manner. SOLUTION: The heat conductor is disposed in a long, two-ended casing tube 2 made of quartz glass, the casing tube has at least one elevation 3 made of quartz glass on its wall which faces the at least one heat conductor, which locally reduces the inside diameter of the casing tube. The heat conductor is formed as a heating coil 4, and the casing tube 2 has a constant outer diameter in the region of the heating coil. The elevation 3 has a convex shape on the surface of the casing tube facing the heating coil, and the heating coil 4 contacts the elevation only at the highest point of the elevation.
