PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin coated paper type support for an image material having excellent surface smoothness, ensuring glossy appearance after coating with a coating liquid for image formation, and having excellent adhesiveness to an image forming layer and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In the support for an image material obtained by coating both sides of a base paper mainly made of natural pulp with resin layers having film forming ability, the surface of the base paper on which an image forming layer is disposed is ground with an abrasive material.
