The invention relates to a card holding device (1) comprising a guide (42a, 42b) and a clamping unit (3) that clamps a card (5) in a guided manner. Sometimes the frictional connection is not established in the event of an unfavorable use of the device. The aim of the inventive device and method is to reliably draw in and transport cards even in the event of an inappropriate operation of the device and unfavorable constraints. To this end, the clamping unit (3) comprises at least one first resilient element (8) having a first area (9) and a second area (10). This resilient element is guided indirectly or directly on the at least one first area (9) by means of the guide (42a, 42b) and indirectly or directly clamps the card (5) by means of the at least one second area (10).
