A conveying trough (3) of U shaped cross section has straight sections (3a,3b) having guide channels for guiding the conveyor chains (4). Each straight section is formed of sheet metal e.g. 3 millimeter thick steel sheet, formed with right and left sidewalls. Upper and lower outward projections, which define the guide channels, are formed on each sidewall. An independent claim is also included for a method of producing the straight section of a u shaped conveyor trough.
