PURPOSE: An automatic folding apparatus of a side mirror for a vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to efficiently prevent the breakage of the side mirror by automatically folding the side mirror when an object is detected by proximity sensors. CONSTITUTION: An automatic folding apparatus of a side mirror is composed of a wheel sensor, a fixed bracket(150) fixed to the outside of a door, a motor(200) installed in the fixed bracket, a motor driving unit, a worm(300) coupled to a rotary shaft(210) of the motor, a worm wheel(350) engaged with the worm, a mirror housing(400) fixed to the central shaft of the worm wheel, a front proximity sensor installed at the front of the mirror housing, a rear proximity sensor(500) installed at the rear of the mirror housing, a time setting unit, and a control unit. The control unit compares measured wheel speed with reference wheel speed, and controls the proximity sensors and the motor driving unit.
