<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable smooth starting in a low temperature status, or below the freezing point, and to prevent flooding during normal operation. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell has electrode catalyst 4 arranged at the both sides of a solid polymer electrolyte membrane 1 to allow fuel gas including hydrogen supplied to an anode electrode and gas including oxygen supplied to a cathode electrode to electrochemically react to generate electric power. A fluid passage 2 is formed inside the solid polymer electrolyte membrane 1, and a water absorbing member 3 is provided at least on a part of the inner wall of the fluid passage 2. The fuel cell system comprises such fuel cell, fluid supplying means for supplying fluid for controlling humidity to the fluid passage 2 of the fuel cell and differential pressure control means for controlling the differential pressure at an inlet side and an outlet side of the fluid passage 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
