<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device for an internal combustion engine restraining water from entering a plug hole. <P>SOLUTION: An ignition coil 3 has a coil flange part 4 closing an opening part 21 of the plug hole 20, and an annular sealing plate 1 is interposed between a lower face 41 of the coil flange part 4 and a peripheral edge 210 of the opening part. The sealing plate 1 has a gas passage allowing gas exchange between the inside of the plug hole 20 and the outside of a cylinder head 2. The gas passage is formed of a through passage provided inside the sealing plate 1, provided with an inner opening part and an outer opening part opened to the inner peripheral surface and outer peripheral surface respectively and crossing radially between the inner peripheral surface and the outer peripheral surface.
