PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating nickel oxide particles which efficiently and economically forms a protective oxide film chemically stable even in a reduction reaction temperature region and excellent in adhesion on the surfaces of nickel oxide particles. SOLUTION: The coating method of the present invention comprises preparing nickel oxide particles coated with a coating oxide by mixing nickel oxide particles with at least one powdery coating oxide selected from the group consisting of magnesium oxide, aluminum oxide, and silicon oxide.
