PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving timing which is versatile and allows the transfer efficiency to be improved in a system of reading out three or more fields in vertical transfer driving of a solid-state imaging device. SOLUTION: A vertical CCD 13 is so driven that a backward transfer channel of a charge packet is turned off approximately simultaneously with turning on a forward transfer channel of the charge packet in a transfer direction, and thus vertical transfer is performed in such a state that an overlap period of a vertical transfer clock is made long.
