PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which does not adversely affect a human body by suppressing the number of times of the occurrence of flicker per unit-time without being influenced by the variations in the production lot of a fixing member and the use environment or the state of use of the image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: A halogen heater 31 which is a heat source is provided in a fixing roller 11 that is the fixing member, and a thermistor 41 that is a temperature detecting means is provided on the surface of the fixing roller 11. Also, a timer 51 that is a timer means for counting the time from the heating start of the fixing roller 11 and a CPU 52 that is a controlling means to control them are provided. The CPU 52 changes the setting of heating time so that the time counted by the timer 51 from the heating start to the next heating start of the fixing roller 11 is set to a specified time after starting the heating of the fixing roller 11 when detecting that the surface temperature of the fixing roller 11 is lowered to the specified temperature by the thermistor 41 in a printing standby time.
