PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber type collimator using a GIF having a large field distribution in a fundamental mode which can enlarge gap length by largely improving the MFD of an SMF. SOLUTION: The fiber type collimator for emitting light to the GIF<SB>2</SB>31 with the MFD of a single mode optical fiber made to enlarge/coincide with the fundamental mode MDF 33 of the GIF<SB>2</SB>31 by the GIF<SB>1</SB>and propagating only the fundamental mode of the GIF<SB>2</SB>31, is characterized by being provided with a tip-convex face structure wherein the tip convex faces 34 of the GIF<SB>2</SB>31 are made to oppose each other via a gap 35, and increasing the gap length by using the GIF having a large field distribution in the fundamental mode, and also reducing diffraction losses.
