PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a liquid crystal display device in which satisfactory adhesion of a seal layer and the substrate to each other is attained. SOLUTION: On a surface of one substrate of the liquid crystal display device provided with a first substrate 1, a second substrate 2 placed opposite to the first substrate 1, a liquid crystal 3 injected between the substrates 1, 2 and the seal layer 14 to plug in between the first and second substrates 1, 2, to stick them to each other and to seal the liquid crystal 3 closely, opposite to the other substrate, an alignment layer 8 or 10 to align directors of liquid crystal molecules 11 along the substrate normal direction is formed.
