PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing the temperature rise of a fire grate by suppressing the combustion of wastes on the fire grate. SOLUTION: When the temperature of the fire grate 16 rises up to a preset upper limit temperature or higher, water vapor 9 sprayed from a vapor nozzle 8 to combustion air 5 is mixed in an air box 7 arranged at the lower part of the fire grate for lowering the temperature of the fire grate. Gas adjusted by mixing the water vapor into the combustion air 5 is called combustion mixed air 10. The combustion mixed air 10 is supplied to a waste layer 4 on a stoker 3. By supplying the combustion mixed air 10 to the waste combustion layer on or near the fire grate, the water vapor 9 mixed in the combustion mixed air causes water gasifying reaction near flames 14 and the fire grate over a set temperature to absorb heat and reduce radiation heat reaching the surface of the fire grate, thus suppressing temperature rise on the surface of the fire grate.
