PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polytrimethylene terephthalate-based conjugate fiber which can develop an excellent quality, soft hand and stretch characteristics without causing band-like unevenness and a stripe-like defect, when used as a warp and/or a weft for a thin woven fabric having a small cover factor, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This polytrimethylene terephthalate-based conjugate fiber is characterized by comprising a group of single filaments in whose each filament two polyester components are bonded to each other in a side-by-side type or in an eccentric sheath-core type, using polytrimethylene terephthalate as at least one of the components constituting the single filaments, and satisfying the following requirements (1) to (3). (1) The maximum cross section area/minimum cross section area ratio of the constituting single filament is≤2.0. (2) A fineness variation U% measured by a normal method is≤1.2%. (3) In a fineness variation U% chart measured by an inert method, the mountain-valley difference in a wave continued in a fiber length direction is≤8% based on an average dtex (the fineness variation U% is measured over a fiber length of 2,000 m).
