PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a copolymer latex easy to handle with the increase in viscosity suppressed, giving latex film of high mechanical strengths and elongation at break even in case of being evaporated to dryness at a temperature near room temperature. SOLUTION: The method for producing the copolymer latex comprises carrying out an emulsion copolymerization of 100 pts.wt. of a monomer mixture specifically comprising (a) a conjugated diene monomer, (b) an aromatic vinyl monomer and (c) an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer. Specifically, this method comprises the following process: After the polymerization reaction of a monomer mixture containing 50-85 wt.% of the component(c) is started, at a point when the conversion in the polymerization system comes to≥70 wt.%, the balance of the component(c) is added to the polymerization system and the polymerization reaction is continued.
