PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To squash an empty can with small force, and to suppress electric power consumption of a motor. SOLUTION: An empty can thrown from a throwing port slides down a guide section 8 and drops into one concave section of a female rotary roller 12. A male rotary roller 11 and the female rotary roller 12 rotate in such a way that they sandwich the empty can and wind it up in directions opposite to each other. Thus, the male and female rotary rollers 11 and 12 press the empty can, while rotating, so that the pressure is given to the can at a pressing place between the empty can and ridge sections formed spirally along peripheral surfaces of a convex section and the concave section, respectively. Here, the pressure applied to the empty can in an oblique direction against a can axis has a component along the axis, and then the can is squashed in a state of being shifted, to be easily compressed into a flat shape.
