MULTI-LAYERED CLEANING SWAB AND METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING SAME

A multi-layered swab having one or more sheets of carrier layer (20) and one or more sheets of absorbent layer (26) attached to the carrier layer. The absorbent layer is made of a sheet of material having high absorbing capacity whilst the carrier layer is made of a sheet of material having increased wear resistance and increased strength with respect to the absorbent layer. The carrier layer is foldable with respect to the absorbent layer. In some embodiments, the carrier layer has edge portions that are particularly adapted for securing the swab to a mop (72, 74), for example. In other embodiments, the carrier layer envelopes the absorbent layer. In yet other embodiments, the carrier layer is integrally formed with the absorbent layer. Typically, the absorbent layer is a non-pulp material and the swab is manufactured in a continuous, on-line process.
