PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high speed tool steel surface modifying method capable of realizing environmental symbiosis to enhance strength reliability and productivity and easily obtaining a highly value-added tool, die or the like. SOLUTION: High speed tool steel is hardened. Then, the hardened high speed tool steel is subjected to the hybrid film deposition which is also served for tempering without singly performing tempering. In the hybrid film deposition which is also served for tempering, deposition of a first film consisting of a PVD film or a nitride film on the surface of high speed tool steel and the first tempering are simultaneously performed. Then, deposition of a second film consisting of a DLC film or a MoS<SB>2</SB>film on the first film and the second tempering are simultaneously performed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
