PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a method which can produce drinking water even from yellow cloudy raw water without using power, and an apparatus. SOLUTION: The drinking water production method comprises a process where a coagulant PG comprising a cross-linked polyamino acid or a cross-linked polyamino acid salt is added to the raw water RW for drink to coagulate and precipitate impurities in the raw water, and a process where the supernatant water TW is passed through a filter medium to remove the impurities dissolved in the supernatant water. As the polyamino acid and the polyamino acid salt are foods, they are harmless to a human body, and safe even when a slight amount of them remains in the drinking water. Their coagulation effects are strong, so that even yellow cloudy raw water can be clarified by coagulation and precipitation. Dissolved low molecular impurities are filtered with the filter medium, such as activated carbon and hollow fiber, which can produce safe drinking water. As the drinking water can be produced without power, the drinking water can be easily produced even in a devastated district, a mountainous district, a developing country, and a desert area.
