<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved multi-bite bone cutting rongeur with an ultrathin foot plate and an integral storage chamber unit and an replaceable and disposable cutting element. <P>SOLUTION: This surgical rongeur is equipped with: a shaft 14 terminating in a foot plate 16; a carrier member 50 which is slidable to the shaft 14, has a proximal end, a distal end opposite to the proximal end and an open interior, the proximal end having an opening in communication with the open interior; a hollow member 90 which is equipped with an opening end with a cutting edge adapted to contact the the foot plate 16 and cut pieces of bone or cartilage and a storage area to collect and store cut pieces of bone or cartilage, the shaft being slidable to the carrier member without passing through the hollow member; and a drive mechanism which provides reciprocating motion of the carrier member 50 and the shaft 14 relative to each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
