<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new norbornene derivative capable of being used as a precursor of a cyclic olefin-based polymer having an excellent transparency, heat resistance and low water absorption, and also having a birefringence and wave length dispersion controlled as desired degrees. <P>SOLUTION: This norbornene derivative is characterized by being expressed by general formula (I) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>9</SP>are each independently an atom or a group selected from a group consisting of H, a halogen atom, a substituted or un-substituted 1-30C hydrocarbon group which may have a bonding group containing O, N, S or Si, and a polar group; (s), (t), (u) are each independently 0-30 integer; and (m), (n) are ech independently 0-20 integer]. By adjusting the composition suitably, it is possible to obtain the new norbornene derivative useful as the precursor monomer for producing the cyclic olefin-based polymer exhibiting the excellent transparency, heat resistance and low water absorption, and also having the freely controlled birefringence and wave length dispersion properties. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
