PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove moire caused on a liquid crystal screen owing to switching between a moving image mode and a still image mode and to solve problems of illumination defects of a lamp. SOLUTION: A mode setting part 700 supplies a control signal to an inverter control part 800 according to a moving image mode or still image mode, and then the inverter control part controls whether a timing signal is applied to an inverter 6009 according to the control signal. When the timing signal is applied, an inverter operates in synchronous mode and when not, the inverter operates in asynchronous mode. The timing signal is the gate select signal of a horizontal synchronizing signal and then drives a lamp in still picture mode synchronously with a horizontal synchronizing signal to remove moire, and drives the lamp at the frequency of the inverter itself in moving picture mode to solve the problems of illumination defects of the lamp.
