PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate wasteful consumption of power caused by idling a ribbon winding spindle to wind an ink ribbon by a simple configuration without enlarging a device, and at the same time to surely prevent objects and hands from being caught in the winding. SOLUTION: When the ribbon winding spindle 33 is moved in its axial direction from a position where a power transmission gear 34 is engaged with a power supply gear 31, the engagement of the power transmission gear 34 to the power supply gear 31 is released, so that the power from a stepping motor for applying power to a platen roller is prevented from being transmitted to the ribbon winding spindle 33. Moreover, one end of the ribbon winding spindle 33 is supported by a supporting member 36 to be freely movable in arrow directions (a) and (b), and an engagement position of the power transmission gear 34 to the power supply gear 31 is regulated.
