PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To play an optical disk device by the CAV rotation even if the user data are not closed and to secure a stable servo of an optical head. SOLUTION: When there is a sufficient recorded area of a predetermined width or more in the backward position in the radial direction from a play-back start position of an optical disk, the optical disk is brought into the state of the CAV rotation. Also, when a predetermined time or longer has passed after the end of the previous recording, or a predetermine time has passed after starting play-back, the CLV rotation is changed over to the CAV rotation.
