PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide calcium titanate which contains few ultrafine particles or aggregated grains and has sharp distribution of the grain size, excellent dispersibility, and in particular, high crystallinity and excellent electric characteristics, and with which a thin film dielectric porcelain material necessary for a small-size capacitor to minimize an electronic appliance can be formed, and to provide a method for manufacturing the compound. SOLUTION: The calcium titanate powder has a perovskite crystal structure having a square prism form or a square prism-like form. The powder is manufactured by mixing a calcium salt in an amount corresponding to the saturation solubility or more and a titanium oxide sol to react in an alkaline solution in the presence of a basic compound.
