PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for clamping a workpiece by which the occurrence of ruggedness in a workpiece caused by nicks can be prevented, and equipment cost can be reduced. SOLUTION: In the clamping device 10 for the workpiece, a base 11 is plurally provided with a plurality of clamping mechanisms 24 to 25 having upper/lower clamping pawls 26 to 29 movably to the horizontal direction, the clamping mechanisms 24 to 25 are moved in accordance with the dimensions of a workpiece 20, and the workpiece 20 is clamped. In the clamping device 10 for a workpiece, the upper/lower clamping pawls are formed of urethane resin, and almost the flat part in the workpiece 20 is clamped with the upper/lower clamping pawls.
