A server transfers to a networked client a media file in compliance with download parameters previously transmitted to the server from the client, the download parameters defining one or more download and/or image variables. Because the download and/or image variables are controlled by each client, a media file can be played back at different clients at different data rates, resolutions and quality levels. The client may control the order in which the data is delivered and hence the way in which the media quality improves during download. |
