Disclosed is a pulse modulator comprising a subtraction stage which generate s a deviation signal from the difference between the complex input signal and a feedback signal, and a signal conversion stage that converts the deviation signal into a control signal. The control signal is multiplied in a first multiplication stage by a complex mixing signal having the frequency .omega. 0. At least the real portion or the imaginary portion of the mixed control sign al is then quantized in a quantization stage so as to generate a real-value pul se signal. The feedback signal for the subtraction stage is generated in a feedback unit based on the pulse signal. The inventive pulse modulator allow s the range of reduced quantization noise to be shifted to a desired operating frequency .omega.0.
