PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engineering method for decontaminating contaminated soil by which sodium (Na) can satisfactorily react with PCB in the contaminated soil and thereby PCB in the soil can be reduced and detoxicated. SOLUTION: The engineering method for decontaminating contaminated soil comprises a process in which the soil polluted with polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) is covered with a shield (a casing 1), a process in which air in the shield (1) is excluded and/or gas which is chemically inactive to sodium (for example, gaseous N<SB>2</SB>) is charged in the shield (1), and a process in which sodium (Na) is added to the soil and is mixed in the shield under an environment where air is excluded and/or the gas is charged.
