PURPOSE: An electric motor driving apparatus and an electric power steering system are provided to prevent bad influence on the electric motor by restricting current in increasing the difference between the measured temperature and the predetermined temperature over the reference value. CONSTITUTION: An electric motor driving apparatus is composed of an electric motor driven by receiving current, and a control unit(3) having a driving element for controlling current flowing on the electric motor. The control unit is composed of a thermistor(39) detecting temperature of the driving element at the regular intervals of time, and a current restricting unit(314) restricting current on the electric motor based on the difference between the measured temperature by the thermistor and the predetermined temperature. The upper limit of the electric motor is decreased before increasing the actual temperature of the switching transistors over the critical value to restrict current on the electric motor.
