PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of finding the occurrence of an irregularity by referring to a region next to a line buffer as a region for error detection to detect a change in the contents of an image memory. SOLUTION: The processing apparatus comprises: an image memory M for storing encoded image data; a line buffer Lb for decoding and writing the encoded image data which was read in each line from the image memory M; and an error detection region E connected to a region of the line buffer Lb, wherein when the data in the error detection region E turns out to be different from that previously stored, error processing is performed.
