This invention provides an improved system for masking vehicle panel gaps when carrying out vehicle re-finishing procedures. The system includes a method for attaching a foam masking strip to the vehicle panel without the need for adhesive. It provides a foam strip that has a magnetic strip welded between two layers of foam. The foam strip may also be produced with the magnet partly exposed for the attachment to the vehicle body. The attachment of the magnetic foam strip can be applied without the need to open the vehicle's moving members and is simple to align into position.
