<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately control a stepping motor, to keep an output of the stepping motor approximately at the maximum torque, and to reduce consumption of power without complicating constitution and control of a sewing machine. <P>SOLUTION: In a multiple-needle sewing machine, a driving pulse outputted to an X-direction driving motor is controlled in such a way that a deviation D between the first pulse number P<SB>1</SB>of a driving pulse number of a driving pulse outputted to the X-direction driving motor and the second pulse number P<SB>2</SB>corresponding to an actual amount of rotation of the X-direction driving motor detected by an encoder attached to the X-direction driving motor becomes a set deviation D<SB>0</SB>set in advance, to prevent the X-direction driving motor from stepping out.
